Chowmahalla Palace- Hyderabad (India)

My FiancĂ© is an avid cricket lover and ensures that he can view at least 65% of the  matches, ofcourse the rest 35% are victims of relationship hazard.

Now let me talk about 13th Feb 2011, which was just like any other Sunday but things changed.  I am thankful to the Practice World Cup between India and Australia.
Well, now you must be trying to figure out what is the correlation between world cup and my visit to the heritage site? Well, there is…

I, like any other Indian girl, strongly believe in the fact that the secret passage to her man’s heart is through his stomach and thus thought that cooking some nice brunch for him, will help. I cooked pasta and he liked it too. Then out of love and gratitude he asked me where would I like to go?
I thought this is “ the moment” …and quickly mentioned Chowmahalla Palace.
Like any ace batsman he successfully dodged this ball and I was clueless… but then, I guess being a history student and having an inclination towards architecture goes hand-in-hand.
And my unquenchable thirst towards the heritage site Chowmahalla Palace was surely no different.

Chow means four. And Mahal means Palace. Chow-Mahalla therefore means four palaces(named Afzal Mahal, Mahtab Mahal, Tahniyat Mahal and Aftab respectively) and here I was.
Today, allow me Ladies and Gentlemen( ofcourse the ones who are done watching cricket) to represent Chowmahalla Palace through the lens of my camera...

The palace is located very close to Charminar but it still remains as one of those lesser know secrets of Hyderabad...strange indeed!

Chowmahalla Palace is in Motigalli - Khilawat area.

While Nizam Salabhat Jung is credited with initiating the construction of the palace complex in 1750, it was Nizam Afzar-ud-Dawla Bahadur who ensured that it was completed between 1857 and 1869.

Chowmahalla is home to the priceless collection of the Nizams and provides us with a glimpse of their opulent lifestyle and aura. The list is surely endless. The architecture is inspiring.

Breathtaking Chandeliers

Exquisite Dresses

Marble statue of wrestlers

Boy's toy - Harley Davindson

Chariots which are now available on rent

The collection is extensive and I was running short of time.

It was while walking through these corridors, I felt so connected to the riches and sophistication of this era. It seems, every wall had a story to narate.
Chowmahalla is one monument that in its intrinsic grandeur still exudes the power of yore.

I realised that this journey will not end so soon and with the promise that I'll return, I closed my day...and bid adieu to this marvelous man made creation.
